It’s always so nice to have an extra day off and this week, that was Independence Day. Kelsey found a recipe on pinterest that she wanted to make and we were going to make it together but she wasn’t feeling well enough to visit so I made the Banana Bread Bars with Brown Butter Frosting.
After dinner with friends, on July 4, we visited until we heard the fireworks and went outside to their front yard where we had a good view of the fireworks from a nearby park. I think these photos are pretty representative of the fireworks showers what we saw.
We opted to not go to the lake this weekend instead Keith and I bought tickets to sit in the Director’s Suite at the local Warren Movie Theatre and enjoyed The Amazing Spiderman. The chairs are recliners that heat up and the staff bring you food to eat during the show. The movie kept me squirming as I was always trying to help Peter (aka Spiderman).
Not too long after we got home from the movie, Keith came in from the front yard and told me to get my camera and come outside because there was a photo opp. I did. One of the water pipes behind us busted and the water shower was shooting up into the sky fast and high. It was impressive and left a good sized hole in the neighbor’s yard.
Friday I was on Southwest airlines on my way to Anaheim, California to attend the American Library Association Convention. Again, I missed being home for my husband and mom’s birthday, which is June 22.
I walked nearly 9 miles through the airports and around the convention center and the hotel. Whew, did my feet hurt.
Saturday, after a full day of attending various meetings and workshops, I was able to enjoy a few hours at Disneyland. One of the things I wanted to do was to go to the Enchanted Tiki Room because I remember being enthralled with it when I first saw it in 1968 as an 8 years old.

I was nervous that my wonderful memory might get damaged but it didn’t, it was delightful! The Enchanted Tiki room opened on June 23, 1963 so I was there on its 49th anniversary.

Sunday evening my friend and I rented a car and drove to Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. We walked along the beach and got our feet wet. Boy, was that water cold!
It was a good trip. Each of the last 4 weeks I have been on a plane and have traveled to the east coast and then to the west coast. Visiting places is exciting and exhausting. For now, it’s home sweet home.

With my camera on a tripod, the shutter speed set at 2 seconds, ISO at 100, and my quality setting on RAW, I sat in my front yard and clicked when I heard the boom or whistle from the fireworks. Once I downloaded the photos I cropped them and I think they turned out pretty good.
The best of this fireworks show was that I didn’t have to fight traffic getting there or coming back. Happy July 4th!
